Learn how to create, configure, and manage age groups within levels for proper gymnast organization and competition structure.

Overview

The Age Groups page allows you to define, add, and remove different age groups within a level. This provides precise control over how gymnasts are organized by age and assigned to different competition formats.

Age Group Visualizer

The age group visualizer provides a comprehensive view of gymnast distribution and age group coverage:

Visual Features

  • Gymnast Age Dots - Individual gymnasts are represented as dots positioned by their exact age on a timeline

  • Age Group Ranges - Each age group is highlighted with a colored background range showing its coverage

  • Color Coding - Different colors help distinguish between age groups visually

  • Gap Detection - Easily identify if any age ranges are uncovered or if gymnasts fall outside defined groups

Practical Benefits

  • Complete Coverage Verification - Ensure all gymnasts in the level are included in an age group

  • Overlap Detection - Identify overlapping age ranges between groups

  • Precise Age Management - See exactly where each gymnast falls within the age spectrum

All Ages Group

Default Fallback Group

The "All Ages" age group serves as a universal fallback:

  • Automatic Inclusion - Every gymnast in the level is automatically included in this group

  • Comprehensive Coverage - Ensures no gymnast is left without an age group assignment

  • Optional Visibility - Can be hidden from public view if not needed for competition

  • Cannot Be Deleted - Maintains system integrity by ensuring every gymnast has a valid group assignment

Creating Age Groups

Add Group Button

Click the "+" (Add Group) button located to the right of the "Age Groups" title to create a new age group. This automatically:

  • Creates a new age group with default settings

  • Assigns a color-coded outline for visual identification

  • Positions it appropriately in the age group list

Age Group Configuration

Age Range Settings

For each age group, you can specify:

Minimum Age:

  • Years and Months - Set precise age requirements (e.g., "8 years 6 months")

  • Validation - Must be less than the maximum age setting

  • Flexible Precision - Can specify down to the month level for exact age cutoffs

Maximum Age:

  • Years and Months - Define the upper age limit (e.g., "9 years 5 months")

  • No Limit Option - Leave empty for no upper age restriction (e.g., "18+")

  • Validation - Must be greater than minimum age when specified

Competition Type Selection

Each age group can be assigned one or more competition types:

Available Competition Types:

  • Qualification - Default competition format (Day 1 equivalent)

  • Qualification 2 - Second qualification round (Day 2 equivalent)

  • All Around Final - Individual all-around competition final

  • Individual Final - Apparatus-specific individual finals

  • Apparatus Final - Equipment-specific final competitions

Multi-Day Competition Management

Competition Type Strategy

Competition types enable sophisticated multi-day event management:

Single Day Competitions:

  • Use Qualification as the primary competition type

  • Suitable for most standard meet formats

Multi-Day Competitions:

  • Create multiple competition types for the same age group

  • Assign different sessions to each competition type

  • Enable separate scoring and ranking for each day

Example: Two-Day Competition

Scenario: 7-8 year old age group in a two-day competition

Configuration:

  • Day 1: Set competition type to Qualification

  • Day 2: Set competition type to Qualification 2

Session Assignment:

  • Monday Session - Qualification (Day 1) scoring

  • Tuesday Session - Qualification 2 (Day 2) scoring

Scoring Benefits:

  • Day 1 Rankings - Separate standings for first day performance

  • Day 2 Rankings - Separate standings for second day performance

  • Combined Rankings - Overall two-day combined results

Competition Type Implementation

Competition types enable sophisticated multi-day competitions and finals management. For detailed information about implementing complex competition structures, session integration, and finals management, see the Competition Types & Finals Management page.

Key Implementation Features:

  • Multi-Stage Events - Support for qualification rounds, team finals, and individual finals

  • Separate Rankings - Each competition type maintains independent standings

  • Judge Workflow - Clear scoring delineation for each competition phase
