πŸ†Score settings

Learn how to configure scoring and ranking settings for levels and age groups in GymArt Meets competitions.

Overview

The Score Settings tab provides comprehensive control over how scores are calculated, ranked, and displayed for each level. These settings determine tie-breaking rules, subdivision handling, and team scoring configurations that affect competition outcomes and results presentation.

Subdivision Award Group Control

Treat Subdivisions as Award Groups

Functionality:

  • Controls whether subdivisions within age groups are treated as separate award groups

  • When enabled, each subdivision maintains its own independent rankings

  • When disabled, all subdivisions within an age group are ranked together

Impact on Rankings:

  • Enabled: Subdivisions compete separately - gymnasts only ranked against others in same subdivision

  • Disabled: All gymnasts in age group ranked together regardless of subdivision assignment

Use Cases:

  • Large Age Groups: Split 60 gymnasts into 2 subdivisions of 30 for more manageable competitions

  • Session Management: Different subdivisions assigned to different competition sessions

  • Fair Competition: Ensures balanced competition within each subdivision

Tie Breaking Configuration

Individual Tie Breaker Methods

Ranking Algorithm:

  1. Primary Sort: Gymnasts sorted by final score (highest first)

  2. Tie Breaker Application: When final scores are identical, apply selected tie breaker

  3. Rank Assignment: Assign ranks based on sort order and bump method

Available Tie Breaker Methods:

  • Execution Score (eScore): Compare execution scores first, then difficulty scores

  • Difficulty Score (dScore): Compare difficulty scores first, then execution scores

  • All Around Score: Use all-around total for tie breaking

  • No Tie Breaker: Maintain tie (same rank) when scores are identical

Tie Resolution Process:

  • Compare primary scores based on selected method

  • If still tied, compare secondary scores

  • Only assign different ranks if tie breakers resolve the tie

Team Tie Breaker Methods

Team Ranking Algorithm:

  1. Team Score Calculation: Sum top N gymnast scores per team (based on team score count)

  2. Primary Sort: Teams sorted by final team score (highest first)

  3. Tie Breaker Application: When team scores are identical, apply selected method

  4. Rank Assignment: Assign team ranks based on sort order

Available Tie Breaker Methods:

  • Execution Score: Compare team execution scores, then difficulty

  • Difficulty Score: Compare team difficulty scores, then execution

  • All Around Score: Use team all-around totals for tie breaking

  • No Tie Breaker: Maintain team ties when scores are identical

Ranking Method Control

Individual Ranking Methods

Bump Ranks on Tie:

  • Enabled: Tied gymnasts share rank number, next rank skips (1, 1, 3, 4...)

  • Disabled: Tied gymnasts get sequential ranks (1, 1, 2, 3...)

Team Ranking Methods

Bump Ranks on Tie:

  • Enabled: Tied teams share rank number, next rank skips

  • Disabled: Tied teams get sequential ranks

Team Competition Impact:

  • Affects team standings and award distribution

  • Maintains consistent ranking methodology across team events

  • Influences team advancement and final placements

Team Score Configuration

Team Score Count

Score Aggregation:

  • Top N Selection: Takes the highest N gymnast scores from each team

  • Team Total Calculation: Sums the selected top scores to create team total

  • Minimum Requirement: At least 1 score must be counted

Example Calculation:

Team A Gymnasts final scores: 9.2, 9.0, 8.8, 8.5, 8.0 (5 gymnasts)
Team Score Count: 3

Top 3 scores: 9.2 + 9.0 + 8.8 = 27.0
Team A Total: 27.0

Validation and Constraints

System Protections:

  • Positive Integer: Team score count must be β‰₯ 1

  • Respects Team Size: If this number is greater than the number of gymnasts on the team, it will take all the gymnasts' scores

  • Real-time Updates: Changes immediately affect team calculations everywhere (Gym Art mobile app, score printouts, projectors, etc.)

Age Group-Specific Overrides

Per-Age-Group Configuration

Granular Control:

  • Score settings can be configured independently for each age group within a level

  • Override level-wide settings for specific age groups

  • Maintain different scoring rules for different age divisions

Implementation:

  • Age group-specific tie breakers

  • Individual subdivision handling per age group

  • Customized team scoring per age group

Example Configuration:

  • Level 1 (7-8 years): Bump ranks on ties, count top 2 team scores

  • Level 1 (9-10 years): No bump on ties, count top 3 team scores

  • Level 2 (All Ages): Use default level settings
