Score entry workflow

How to manage video recording and score entry during a rotation, especially when you're still learning the system.

A practical guide for handling video recording and score entry during competition. Start simple, then build up as you get comfortable.

Beginner Workflow

When you're new to the system or still in the learning curve, keep things separate:

1. Record Videos First

  • For the entire rotation, focus only on recording videos.

  • Go through each gymnast one by one and capture their routine.

  • Do not try to enter scores at the same time.

2. Enter Scores After the Rotation

  • Once all routines for the rotation are recorded, switch to score entry.

  • Enter all scores for that rotation before the next rotation begins.

Why this works: It prevents you from juggling two tasks at once. Video recording requires attention to timing, while score entry requires accuracy. Doing them separately reduces errors and stress.

Comfortable Workflow

Once you're confident with both tasks — or if you have multiple tablets and people helping:

Do Both in Sequence Within a Rotation

  • After each gymnast performs, record the video, then immediately enter the score.

  • Move to the next gymnast and repeat.

  • This is faster overall because you finish both tasks by the end of the rotation.

Only move to this workflow when:

  • You are comfortable with the recording and scoring interfaces.

  • You have enough people or tablets to handle both without falling behind.

  • You've practiced during at least one full session with the beginner workflow.

Tips

  • If you fall behind on score entry, it's okay to finish entering scores during the break between rotations.

  • If internet is slow, see the internet troubleshooting guide for how to adjust your workflow.

  • The Judges Companion app shows score status in real time — use it to track what's been entered.
