Handle vault scoring

Vault has special rules — gymnasts may perform one or two vaults with different scoring decisions.

How Vault Is Different

Unlike other apparatus (one routine, one score), vault allows gymnasts to perform two attempts. The meet organizer configures how these two scores combine.

Vault Scoring Decisions

Decision
How It Works

One Vault Only

Only the first vault counts. Second vault is ignored for all-around.

Two Vault Average

The average of both vault scores is used for all-around.

Two Vault Best

The better of the two vault scores is used for all-around.

The decision is configured per level by the meet organizer.

Entering Two Vault Scores

In the Judges Companion App

  1. Enter the first vault score as normal (D score, E deductions).

  2. Submit the first vault.

  3. Tap Add Second Vault to enter the second attempt.

  4. Enter the second vault's D and E scores.

  5. Submit both.

In the Admin

  1. Enter the first vault score.

  2. Add the second vault score in the second vault section.

  3. Both are saved together.

How Scores Are Calculated

For each vault:

  • Start Value = Initial Execution + Difficulty + Bonus

  • Final Score = Execution Score + Difficulty + Bonus - Neutral Deductions

For all-around:

  • Applied based on the scoring decision (one vault, average, or best)

Second Vault Specifics

  • The second vault has its own score ID (original ID with _2 suffix)

  • It can be revoked independently of the first vault

  • If revoked, the system falls back to one-vault-only scoring
