# Score settings

Score settings live at the level. Open a level, then go to Score Settings to find every option on this page. Artistic levels (MAG, WAG, WAG+) and trampoline levels each expose a slightly different set of options; sections below note where a setting applies only to one type.

## Tiebreakers

### Individual apparatus tiebreaker

**What it does.** When two gymnasts finish a single apparatus with the same total score, this setting decides who ranks higher.

**What it affects.** The order gymnasts appear in apparatus rankings and on the results export.

**When to use it.** Leave it at the default when your governing body requires shared ranks. Pick a comparison strategy when you need a single gymnast to advance or receive a medal ahead of another.

**Options.**

| Option | What it means |
| -------------------------- | ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| Do Not Break Ties | Tied gymnasts share the same rank. No comparison is made. |
| Compare E then D | Higher execution wins. If still tied, higher difficulty wins. |
| Compare D then E | Higher difficulty wins. If still tied, higher execution wins. |
| All-Around Score | The gymnast with the higher all-around total ranks ahead on the apparatus. |
| Cascading All-Around | Drop the lowest apparatus score from each tied gymnast and compare the sums. Repeat until one gymnast is ahead or only one score remains. |
| Cascading AA then E then D | Cascading all-around first; if still tied, compare total all-around execution, then total all-around difficulty. |
| Oldest Age Wins | The gymnast with the earlier birth date ranks ahead. |
| Youngest Age Wins | The gymnast with the later birth date ranks ahead. |

**Default.** Do Not Break Ties

***

### All-around tiebreaker

**What it does.** When two gymnasts have the same all-around total, this setting decides who ranks higher in the all-around standings.

**What it affects.** All-around rankings and all-around finals qualification order.

**When to use it.** Use any comparison strategy for high-stakes all-around competitions where ties must resolve to a single rank. Leave at the default for recreational meets.

**Options.** Same options as Individual apparatus tiebreaker, except Best of 2 Vault then E then D (which applies to vault only).

**Default.** Do Not Break Ties

***

### Vault tiebreaker

**What it does.** When two gymnasts tie on vault, this setting breaks the tie. Because vault supports two-vault entry, it offers one extra option beyond the standard list.

**What it affects.** Vault apparatus rankings only.

**When to use it.** Use Best of 2 Vault then E then D whenever two vaults are entered and you want the better-vaulter to advance. Use any other strategy for single-vault competitions.

**Options.** All options from Individual apparatus tiebreaker, plus:

| Option | What it means |
| ----------------------------- | ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ |
| Best of 2 Vault then E then D | Compare each gymnast's best-of-two vault score. If still tied, compare best vault execution, then best vault difficulty. |

**Default.** Do Not Break Ties

***

### Team apparatus tiebreaker

**What it does.** When two teams tie on a single apparatus, this setting decides which team ranks higher on that apparatus.

**What it affects.** Team apparatus rankings and results exports.

**When to use it.** Use when your competition rules require apparatus-level team tie resolution.

**Options.** All options from Individual apparatus tiebreaker, except Oldest Age Wins, Youngest Age Wins, and Best of 2 Vault then E then D (not applicable to teams).

**Default.** Do Not Break Ties

***

### Team all-around tiebreaker

**What it does.** When two teams have the same team all-around total, this setting decides which ranks ahead.

**What it affects.** Team all-around standings and team finals qualification order.

**When to use it.** Use for multi-team competitions where all-around ties must resolve cleanly.

**Options.** Same as Team apparatus tiebreaker.

**Default.** Do Not Break Ties

***

### Trampoline tiebreaker (TRA levels only)

**What it does.** Breaks individual score ties for trampoline-discipline levels.

**What it affects.** Rankings for the level's single apparatus.

**When to use it.** Use Compare E then D when execution quality should separate tied gymnasts. Leave at the default for shared-rank rules.

**Options.**

| Option | What it means |
| ----------------- | ------------------------------------------------------------- |
| Do Not Break Ties | Tied gymnasts share the same rank. |
| Compare E then D | Higher execution wins. If still tied, higher difficulty wins. |

**Default.** Do Not Break Ties

***

### Trampoline team tiebreaker (TRA levels only)

**What it does.** Breaks team score ties for trampoline-discipline levels.

**What it affects.** Team rankings for the level's apparatus.

**When to use it.** Same rationale as the individual trampoline tiebreaker, applied to teams.

**Options.** Same as Trampoline tiebreaker.

**Default.** Do Not Break Ties

***

## Vault scoring

### Vault score decision

**What it does.** Controls whether one vault or two vaults are entered per gymnast, and how the scores combine into the all-around total.

**What it affects.** What judges are asked to enter, and how vault contributes to all-around.

**When to use it.** Match this to your governing body ruleset. Most entry-level and single-vault competitions use One Vault Only. Average or Best depends on whether your rules reward the better attempt or the combined effort.

**Options.**

| Option | What it means |
| ----------------- | ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| One Vault Only | Only the first vault score counts. The second vault is not entered. |
| Two Vault Average | Both vaults are entered. The all-around uses (Vault 1 + Vault 2) / 2. |
| Two Vault Best | Both vaults are entered. The all-around uses whichever vault score is higher. |

**Default.** One Vault Only

***

## Rankings

### Bump ranks on tie (individual)

**What it does.** Controls how rank numbers are assigned after a tie. With bumping on, two gymnasts tied at 1st are both ranked 1st, and the next gymnast is ranked 3rd. With bumping off, the next gymnast is ranked 2nd.

**What it affects.** How ranks appear on results exports and the leaderboard. Does not change who is ahead of whom, only the number assigned.

**When to use it.** Most standard competitions use Bump Ranks on Tie. Turn off bumping when consecutive numbering is required.

**Options.**

| Option | What it means |
| ----------------- | ------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| Bump Ranks on Tie | Tied gymnasts share a rank; the next rank skips (1, 1, 3). |
| No Bump on Tie | Tied gymnasts share a rank; the next rank is consecutive (1, 1, 2). |

**Default.** Bump Ranks on Tie

***

### Bump ranks on tie (team)

**What it does.** Same as individual bump ranks, applied to team rankings.

**What it affects.** How team rank numbers appear on results exports.

**When to use it.** Same rationale as individual bump ranks.

**Options.** Same as individual bump ranks.

**Default.** Bump Ranks on Tie

***

## Team scoring

### Team score count

**What it does.** The number of gymnasts from each team whose scores contribute to the team total on each apparatus or all-around.

**What it affects.** The magnitude of team scores and which gymnasts matter for the team result. Lower counts reduce the impact of the weakest team members.

**When to use it.** Set this to match your governing body rules. Most competitions use 3.

**Default.** 3

***

### Team score take decision

**What it does.** Determines how the system selects which gymnasts' scores count toward the team total.

**What it affects.** Which gymnasts' scores are included in the team result on each apparatus.

**When to use it.** Use Top Apparatus Scores for the most common ruleset, where each apparatus team score is built from the top scores on that apparatus. Use Top All-Around Scores when the same fixed group of gymnasts must anchor the team across every apparatus.

**Options.**

| Option | What it means |
| --------------------- | ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| Top Apparatus Scores | For each apparatus independently, the N highest individual apparatus scores from that team are summed. Different gymnasts may contribute on different apparatus. |
| Top All-Around Scores | The N gymnasts with the highest all-around totals are selected. Only their scores count on every apparatus. |

**Default.** Top Apparatus Scores

***

## Qualification policy

These settings apply to multi-round competitions where gymnasts from a qualification round advance to finals. They have no effect if you are not running finals.

### Apparatus final limit

**What it does.** The maximum number of gymnasts who qualify for apparatus finals from the qualification round.

**What it affects.** Which gymnasts appear in the finals columns of results exports.

**When to use it.** Set this to match your competition draw. The most common FIG value is 8.

**Default.** 8

***

### All-around final limit

**What it does.** The maximum number of gymnasts who qualify for the all-around final.

**What it affects.** Who advances to the all-around final.

**When to use it.** Set to your event's qualifying quota.

**Default.** 24

***

### Max qualifiers per team

**What it does.** Caps how many gymnasts from the same team or club can qualify to finals. Once a team reaches this limit, additional gymnasts from that team are skipped in qualification order even if they outranked others.

**What it affects.** Finals roster composition; prevents any one club from filling all qualification spots.

**When to use it.** Required for most elite and invitational competitions. Set to match governing body rules.

**Default.** 2

***

### Number of reserves

**What it does.** The number of reserve positions that follow the qualification limit. Reserves are the next gymnasts in rank order, subject to the same per-team cap.

**What it affects.** How many alternates appear on the qualification list.

**When to use it.** Set to match your competition rules for alternates.

**Default.** 2

***

### Team final limit

**What it does.** The maximum number of teams that qualify for the team final. This applies to the all-around team standings only.

**What it affects.** Which teams advance to the team final.

**When to use it.** Set to your event's team final quota.

**Default.** 12

***

## Trampoline score calculation (TRA levels only)

### Score decision

**What it does.** Controls how individual routine scores are combined into the gymnast's total for the level.

**What it affects.** The total score used for rankings and results.

**When to use it.** Use Sum All Routines for standard qualification and finals where every routine counts. Use Best Two of Submitted for disciplines that allow an optional third routine but score only the top two.

**Options.**

| Option | What it means |
| --------------------- | ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| Sum All Routines | All submitted routine scores are added together. |
| Best Two of Submitted | The two highest routine scores are taken. A third routine, if entered, is discarded if it is not in the top two. |

**Default.** Sum All Routines

***

### Infer fourth judge

**What it does.** When exactly three execution judges are present, the system calculates a fourth judge's score as the average of the three. The four scores are then processed with standard four-judge rules: drop the highest and lowest, sum the middle two.

**What it affects.** Execution score calculation. Turning this off means three-judge panels use three-judge rules instead.

**When to use it.** Leave on for most trampoline meets that run with three judges. Turn off only if your sanctioning body prohibits inference.

**Default.** On

***

## Score status

Score status tracks where a gymnast's score is in the judging process. For a full explanation of each state and the transitions between them, see [Understand score status](/scoring/understand-score-status.md).

Quick reference:

| Status | Meaning |
| ----------- | ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| Not Started | No judge has opened score entry for this gymnast. |
| In Progress | A judge has started entering scores but has not yet submitted. |
| In Review | The score was revoked after submission and is pending re-entry. |
| Submitted | The judge submitted. The score is visible on the leaderboard and in results. |
| Scratch | The gymnast did not compete and is excluded from rankings. |
